Mallorca is one of an archipelago of islands known as the Balearics. Four of these islands, Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentura are inhabited .They are to be found off the Eastern Coast of Spain. The largest island is Mallorca---it is also the longest---100Km from east to west. The normal population is about 600,000 but during the tourist season this population can go up to 7 million or more. Most of Mallorcas' visitors will be concentrated in the south and north-east of Mallorca island, whilst the upland ares of the north west of Mallorca are underpopulated and unspoiled . Here the Serra de Tramuntana has more than 40 peaks rising above 1000m. These mountains go down to the sea and end in steep cliffs.In some places access to the Mallorcan coast is impossible from the land.

Large areas of the inland Mallorca are are covered with the evergreen oak and carob trees.Olive trees also survive at higher altitudes and many specimens are reputed to be more than 1000 years old. Even higher in the landscape are the pine trees. In the coastal areas of Mallorca, fig trees are grown plus citrus fruits.During the springtime Mallorca is vibrant with the colours of wild plants .

Mallorca is well known for its walking and bird watching. The climate of Mallorca is a typical one for this part of the Mediterranean. In winter the temperature rarely falls below 11degrees C and in the summer there is an average temperature of 25 degrees C.
