Orba is one of the most inland villages of the Marina Alta. A village proud of its Moorish past, the name 'Orba' originates from the arabic,
'ur-obia', meaning 'the place where water springs from the mountain'.
Orba's moorish ancestry can be seen in its pottery, agriculture and architecture. Orba is also an important transport hub for the Marina Alta, as it links Pego with the Marina Baixa and the Retoria valleys with the Vall de Laguart.
Its economy is essentially agricultural with citrus fruit, almond, carob and olive groves abundant in the surrounding area. Orbas agriculture is supplemented by its ceramic and bag making industries.
